Plastic thermoformed trays are formed by heating a thermoplastic sheet and then forming the sheet using pressure or vacuum against a pre fabricated die. Major advantage of this process is that it is faster than the plastic moulding process.

Blister

Blister pack is made by making single or multiple cavities in a formable plastic sheet by thermoforming process. Different products e.g. capsules, bulbs etc are placed in the cavities and they are packed using a paperboard or aluminum or paper sealing.

Blister packaging has following advantages

  • Transparent and tamper proof packaging
  • Easy to print product details on the cardboard or paper sealing

Clamshell

A clamshell is a one-piece container consisting of two halves joined by a hinge area which allows the structure to come together to close. Clamshells, can use a variety of means of closing or sealing. Some have self-locking tabs, snaps, or have a friction fit. Others use adhesive, pressure sensitive tape, labels, staples, or are heat sealed.

Advantages of clamshell are

  • Clear visibility of packaged product
  • Can be designed to hang on peg walls
  • Enables cost reduction by packaging multiple products in a single clamshell
